is a city in Okaloosa County, Florida, commonly known as "The World's
Luckiest Fishing Village". Destin has grown from a once historic fishing
village to a premiere resort destination. This seaside city sits along the coast in
the Florida Panhandle, at the end of a peninsula separating Choctawhatchee
Bay from the Gulf of Mexico. It is known for its emerald waters and white
sand beaches. The population was 11,119 at the 2000 census. As of 2004,
the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 12,162.[1] Destin is not only known as "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village" but it is also known for its white sand beaches, which contribute to its status as a popular tourist locale. In particular, Destin draws tourists from Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. |
